Devon didn't marry the girl he asked to the prom.
Her name was Cherish. She wasn't as beautiful as the girl Devon wanted to take to the prom, whose name was Priscilla. Priscilla had no interest in Devon, and so Cherish was the second choice. Pictures were taken at the prom, dances were danced, and by the end, Cherish was swept up in the romantic idea of the prom and kissed Devon during their slow dance. The two made love in Devon's car before he brought her home. They met the following day for lunch at the mall, and made love again in Devon's room while his parents were out shopping. The two spent Sunday at the beach, making love in the water and then again while watching the sunset. Monday morning at school, Cherish saw Devon talking to Priscilla, who was suddenly curious as to why Devon had taken Cherish to the prom."What do you mean?" Devon asked.
"You could have asked me," Priscilla said.
"You already had a date," Devon replied. "Your boyfriend."
Cherish walked up, putting her arms around Devon's shoulders and giving him a long kiss. Priscilla scoffed and stormed off. That didn't stop Priscilla; she continued to pursue Devon by showing up at his home or at his job with some excuse that would put her in a situation where she and Devon could be alone. At the beginning of their senior year, Priscilla showed up to school very pregnant. Without a word, she stood beside Devon, intertwinning her arms around his. Needless to say, Cherish was devastated. A short time later, Cherish ended her life by jumping to her death from the Farrington Highway overpass near Waipahu Intermediate School. Devon and Priscilla graduated as parents of a lovely little girl named Tiara Rose Kubo. One of her first baths was taken in the kitchen, which was completely sterilized. It was an enjoyable experience for Priscilla and Devon. Still, as the parents looked away for only a second, they were horrified to see their baby being held underwater by an unseen force. No matter how they tried to pull little Tiara out of the water in the sink, they could not. Something pushed them away each time they tried. Their baby ended up drowning right in front of them.
The funeral services proved to be traumatic for both parents, and for as much support as they had from their parents and family, the grief of losing little Tiara left them completely shattered. A short time later, Devon rushed to the bathroom from the car as soon as he got home. He was holding his number one through the traffic and burst into the bathroom. As he relieved himself, he hadn't noticed Priscilla sitting in the tub for a bath. She was completely submerged. Something was holding her down, but only momentarily. Devon managed to pull Priscilla out and gave her CPR, bringing her back to life. After this incident, Priscilla and Devon went to St. Joseph's church to get blessed. Even though they had no proof, they knew it was the spirit of Cherish coming back for revenge on them. After making a confession to the priest, the holy man took them to the spot where Cherish ended her life and made Devon and Priscilla ask for forgiveness. To their horror, they saw Cherish's spirit standing in the middle of the river, bloodied and soaking wet, staring at them with cold, dark anger. Then, as the surface of the water reflected the sunlight, Cherish faded into it. She was gone.
A year later, while at work making repairs on a Chevy Caprice, a strikingly beautiful young woman walked into the garage and asked Devon for help. Aside from being taken by the lovely creature, Devon was worried about the woman's safety in an active garage with cars on lifts, tools constantly dropping, and welding going on. She introduced herself as Carrie and assured Devon she was fine. She told Devon that he had come highly recommended to her and that her brand-new Mercedes was parked on the street, if he could take a look at it. Carrie's perfume was intoxicating, causing Devon to almost lose his train of thought. She hovered close to him while he looked over her sedan, finally saying that he couldn't find anything wrong with it. Before Devon knew it, the strangely beautiful young woman was kissing him, guiding him to the back seat of her car, where she slid her hand into his pants. Soon, Devon's hands reached for the inside of her undergarments but he discovered that she was not wearing any. He was inside her now, trying to take his time, to make it last. His lovemaking with Priscilla wasn't like this at all. It was clinical, and over for both of them no sooner than it began. This kind of clandestine meeting with Carrie went on for a while until finally, one afternoon, while laying naked together at her pool, Carrie rolled over and went into the water, swimming to the other side. Devon watched her emerge from the other side as the reflection of the sun hit the surface of the water. He was horrified and let out a deep guttural scream. It was Cherish standing there, not Carrie. Cherish, with blackened eyes, cold, dark, and angry. She was bloodied in the clothes that she wore on the day of her suicide.

Devon ran for his life, grabbing his clothes and car keys, and not even caring about his slippers. When he got home, Priscilla was waiting for him. Before he could say anything, Priscilla slammed her phone on the kitchen counter. There was a video playing of every sex session Devon was having with Carrie.
"Cilla, that's Cherish! I swear to you, it's Cherish! She came back in this person's body!" Devon claimed.
"That's your excuse?" Priscilla couldn't believe it. "Your things are packed, they're at your parents' house. Don't come back, we are done."
His head in a whirl, still trying to make sense of what happened, Devon drove past the Farrington Highway bridge and saw Cherish walk into the middle of the road. He took too sharp a turn to the right, causing his vehicle to flip over, go over the bridge, and land in the water below. Devon was still alive and not too badly hurt. He went to undo his seatbelt when suddenly, someone grabbed it and wrapped it around his neck. It was Carrie, but it was Cherish. She pulled with all her strength as the vehicle submerged into the brown waters, holding Devon in place until he finally drowned.
