100 Ghost Stories Counting Down To Halloween 2023. #11. Attention

"Much too much social media."

There is too much living off a literal box where your whole world revolves around endless platforms regarding one subject. Yours are possessions, be they spiritual, demonic, or even conjured from your psychosis. Those are hard to reconcile because no exorcist or shaman can release a demonic affliction. After all, it is self-induced. You get to decide when the entity leaves, but sometimes, all the drama and all the attention can be intoxicating. Today, we are dispossesing your family of you because your possession has become worse, like an in-law with no personal space or respect. Or a toxic family member who has just sucked the life out of the household but worse. You're the worst thing. The men from the state hospital have bound your hands, knees, and feet, have bodily carried you to the van, and have locked you to your chair. Sure, you thought that your online class regarding the use of Latin would thrill your family or, at the very least, surprise them. Instead, they were repulsed.

Living only on a juice diet did reduce your weight to lend you the proper appearance of someone in a state of possession, but your family did not understand that this was all for their attention because they gave you none. If you'd only told them, I'm sure they would have understood, and together, you would have all gone to therapy. However, you were too caught up in the drama, and you've always been a terrible communicator. Unfortunately, you underestimated the men from the state hospital. They saw right through your act and bought none of it. Perhaps they did through you too hard into your padded cell, but they could always feign and claim fear for their physical and spiritual safety."

"Please, I'm sorry," you tell me, hoping I will show mercy.

"You're not sorry," I tell you. "You don't even know why you're sorry, but now that you are dealing with a true demon, you don't know how sorry you're going to be,"
