100 Ghost Stories Counting Down To Halloween 2021 #63

63

I have to stop eating these small packets of Milky Way bars, otherwise, I'm going to have to find a bathroom, and there are none available at this location.

I mean, I can go drive and find one, but that will take an hour to do that, and then another hour to get back here, and by that time, I will have missed it. The sheriffs confirmed it, the men who worked on renovating the basement confirmed it. Security guards operating the CCTV cameras confirmed it. It would have behooved me to take all the confirmation as fact and then move on. But no, I needed my own ocular proof. So I placed the tripod on the roof of my car and faced the camera at an upward angle facing into the canopy of the massive banyan tree. It was an eight-hour stay with no results. I must have dozed off at some point because the next thing I know, a parking meter guy is knocking on my window. It was sun up already, and people were arriving to work or walking through the parking lot to get there. I got out and grabbed my tripod, and headed straight home so I could review the footage. There was nothing from the time I rolled the camera until the hour of one-thirty-eight in the morning. If you weren't looking carefully, you would have missed it just like I did because it was very subtle. It's only because of a very slight minuscule movement that I saw it off to the side of something else I was looking at, but there it was. I counted at least sixty, and that's all because they were moving slowly at first. Dark shadowy human figures with red glowing eyes crawled gingerly in the canopy until they noticed my phone camera. Then there was a noticeable pause, then as a collective, they made a beeline to the camera, frantically trying to figure out what it was. The shot was filled with a red glow for a few more seconds, and then it was over. All this happened while I was sound asleep and snoring in my car because you could hear that on the phone camera too.

By 10 am, I was sitting in an office which will remain un-named. Suffice it to say that they wanted to see the footage I'd recorded. So I handed it over to them by e-mail, and once they opened the attachment, they all gathered in front of the large TV screen and observed the recording. They did a lot of forwarding and finally concluded that all the numerous ghost stories they heard about the Banyan trees between the old state ID building and the Ali'iolani Hale were just that, ghost stories without any factual basis to back it up. The banyan trees would stay where they were; they weren't going to be cut down after all. I know what you're thinking, and yes, I did give them the footage I recorded of a banyan tree, just not the one they wanted. If you face your phone camera at an upward angle into the branches of a banyan tree, you really don't have a clue as to what banyan tree you're looking at. It could be any random banyan. The actual footage I have that confirms the presence of dark shadowy human figures with red glowing eyes, infesting the banyan between the state buildings, will never see the light of day, and the ghost stories about them, will remain just that.
