100 Ghost Stories Counting Down To Halloween 2025. #91. Cave Diary 1.

One day, I took a random drive out to the Wai'anae coast for no real purpose, just because I felt I should go there.

The one and only stop I made was at Kaneana Cave. I parked in the large dirt parking lot, and walked in. I ended up on the upper left hand side, toward the back past the large boulder. I settled myself on the dirt and gravel, and within a minute, I was asleep. Before I knew it, I woke up to a hissing sound, like when air is coming out of the tire on your car. Except for this hissing, it had a human quality. In between each hiss, I could hear something or someone inhale to take a breath before the next hiss. It was coming from the lower part of the cave that leads to the old opening at Nanaue Beach. There was a group of Hawaiian women feeding a reptilian creature so massive that it took up most of the space on the cave floor. It was black in color on its surface, but when it turned on its back, the underside was a whitish-yellow color. It turned back over, made its way to the opening, and disappeared. As the ladies were leaving, I recalled counting four of them, yet now there was an extra. A fifth.

It was strange because none of them seemed unrecognizable, but by my count, there were supposed to be four, but I kept counting five. They hadn't seen me yet, as I was pretty adept at hiding, but the lack of correct counting confounded me, so I followed them out of the cave, across the street, to the parking lot. Catching up to them, I didn't let on that I witnessed what I saw. I just pretended to be a visitor from out of state and that I wanted to take a picture with them. They obliged. When the picture came out, it included four of the women in the photograph with me.

The fifth person took the photo. Knowing this, I put my phone on video record and faced the five women without them. It was time to go home, so as the women left in their vehicle, I left in mine. Of course, I couldn't wait until I got back, so I stopped at the 7-11 in Makaha and got myself a drink and a sandwich. I settled down in my car, and after looking at the video I took of the women, I ran across the street and jumped into the ocean to cleanse. When I was done, I drove back home, but not before deleting the video. In the video, it was not the four women, but a video of me, walking back to my car and positioning my phone in such a way that it was apparent I was recording them. I didn't have a towel, so I didn't even dry off. Just soaking wet, I walked back and got into my car. Just then, I saw the four women coming out of the store with snacks and drinks. They piled into the car and drove off, which meant that a fifth person was driving. I followed them along Farrington Highway until I had the opportunity to pull up alongside them. There were only four; the fifth person was in my back seat. I had only a brief second to see the Hawaiian woman with hair feathered back, wearing an old Roller Derby jersey and black slacks. Her features were strong. She reached forward and placed her hands over my eyes. I screamed, and she removed her hands. I woke up just then, still lying on the dirt and gravel in the cave. I got up as quickly as I could and ran outside and across the street to my car. Peeling out, I glanced back and there she was, standing at the mouth of the cave, glaring at me. As if telling me that I got away this time because she let me, and that there wouldn't be a next time.
