Hawaii is an ancient place. So many people have lived - and died - here. With such a rich, cultural history, chances are that, in our small community, at least one person in nearly every household has had some kind of supernatural "chicken skin" occurrence. Welcome to Ghosts Next Door, a collection of ghost stories and other thoughts about and around the Mysteries of Hawaii.

100 Ghost Stories Counting Down To Halloween 2025. #95. Cave Diary 5.
The Army, in a show of community support, went into Kaneana cave and sprayed black paint over all of the graffiti that festooned the walls of the sacred cave. The black color gave the cave an eerie appearance, especially if you didn't know it was spray paint; you'd think it was some otherworldly thing. One of the soldiers noticed on the cave floor something that looked like an Indian arrowhead, but it was not. Yet, the shape of the object intrigued him, so he picked it up, placed it in his pocket, and forgot about it. Two days later, his wife threw his fatigues into the washer and dryer. In the dryer, it sounded as if bullets were being fired in the house. The soldier got his wife and children into the garage and then out of the house safely. The sound of gunfire continued until the police arrived. They found nothing except the clothes dryer that was still spinning. Later, when the wife emptied the dryer, there was the stone that the soldier found in the cave. Upon closer inspection, the soldier, through past experience during specific conflicts in battle, realized it wasn't a stone, but a shard of a human skull shaped like an arrowhead, or a spear. He knew enough about the Hawaiian culture that certain things needed to be respected. He went back to the cave with apologies and a flower lei. Placing the object back where he had found it, he apologized once more. Quiet permeated his home thereafter.
