Dive 2022

Manford Arms. That was the name of the Waikīkī motel.

Not the Manford Arms in Waikīkī or on the Ala wai or the Kuhiō Manford Arms, just the Manford Arms. It was a dive Motel tucked away between two run-down apartment buildings off of Kaʻiulani. I was in-between places which means I got kicked out of my one place and was now looking for a spot to crash for a couple of days until I could figure out my next move. Manford Arms was that place. The room was small and had the bare basic necessities. Bed, nightstand, lamp, television, wifi, toilet, and shower. Anything else you needed you could find at the ABC store. I was sitting on the edge of the bed, going through my phone when I felt someone physically sit on the opposite side. I jumped up and looked and saw the depression on the covers. It was there one second, and then it was gone as if someone was sitting there one second and stood up in the next. Great, that is what I needed after all the shit Iʻm going through. A haunted dive motel room in Waikīkī. I went down to the front desk to ask if I could be moved to another room. "Why? What happened?" The front desk clerk asked.

"Something sat on my bed, and no one was there," I said with mounds of stress mounting on my shoulders.

"Oh, that's this whole place," the clerk scoffed.

"You mean people die here all the time?" I shrieked.

"Mainly from suicide, overdose, old age, life stuff, but no murders," the clerk pointed to me. " I can safely say that with pride, no murders."

"You never had this place blessed?" I couldn't comprehend the clerk's cavalier attitude.

"Yeah, but you know? Bless the room, and then someone else dies in it, and then it starts all over again," the clerk shook her head. "It's almost pointless."

"I'll be back in an hour or so," I said while walking out the small double doors leading outside. "You'll still be here, right? Unless you're a ghost because then it would be pointless."

"I'll be here," she reassured me.

I was back an hour or so later, and I handed her the two-page proposal. "What's this?" She asked.

"A proposal," I said. "Read it,"

"Aren't you supposed to propose with a ring? What's this contract?"

I grabbed it from here and read it out loud from top to bottom. "What do you think?"

"Sounds like something I never thought of, but it's so crazy it might work!" She screamed

Reservations at the Haunted Manford Arms in Waikiki are for one night only. You get to sleep, seance, ouija, and investigate the spirits that haunt this old dive motel in the underbelly of Waikiki. I guess I found my niche and a permanent place to live.
